Supplemental Adult Boy Scout Leader Training

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Adult Leaders

Roundtable Held monthly in each District.  Excellent way to keep on top of what’s happening and to develop relationships with other leaders in the District.  Breakout held in Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Varsity, & Venturing relative subjects of interest each month.
Adult Leaders Safe Swim Defense Conducted periodically and at the Scouting Leadership Conference in November.  Also available on the National Council’s website.  Water related activities require that a trained adult leader be in attendance.  Retake every 2 years.
Adult Leaders Safety Afloat Conducted periodically and at the Scouting Leadership Conference in November.  Also available on the National Council’s website.  Water related activities require that a trained adult leader be in attendance.  Retake every 2 years.

(Boy Scout, Varsity & Venturing

Scouting Leadership Conference Largest training event in the Council.  Does not replace Basic Leader Training.  Held the first Saturday in November at a local school.  More than 100 courses offered on subjects designed to broaden knowledge of various subjects from outdoor cooking to advancement.  Includes classes for Youth Leaders.  Large Midway has displays by different Scouting activities, community organizations, government agencies and local suppliers.

Trainer Development Conference Conducted semi-annually to provide additional tools and techniques for leading and training others.  All Scouters who lead and train others should take this course.

Backpack Awareness

Prepares adult leaders to conduct a safe and enjoyable high adventure outing.  Conducted by the Council High Adventure Team.

 Adult Leaders Winter Backpacking  Prepares Scouters to lead a safe and enjoyable winter backpack outing.  Conducted by the Council High Adventure Team.
 Adult Leaders Climb On Safely Provides important information on safe climbing, and is not a climbing certification course.  A must for any Scout Leader planning to provide a climbing experience for youth.
 Adult Leaders  Trek Safely Provides useful information on conducting safe treks.  All High Adventure Scouters will gain important tips from this course.

 Life-To-Eagle Workshop

Provides a time line for attaining the Eagle Scout Badge before the Scout’s 18th birthday. Covers planning and executing the required Eagle Scout Project.  Offered quarterly by the Council Advancement Committee.

 Powder Horn

 National High Adventure Skills Resources Management Course.  Offered in Council annually.  Designed to help adult leaders safely conduct outdoor activities of a fun and challenging nature.  Based on the Venturing Ranger program, but useful for any adult involved in delivering a unit-level high adventure program.

Philmont Training Center

 Located near Cimarron, NM, Philmont is the only BSA official Volunteer Training Facility.  Offers a wide array of courses.  Special programs available for families while their Scouter is in class.  Courses fill quickly, and Council recommendation is required.
